Mike Wilson
Artist, California Impressionism, Landscape, Oil paintings.
Grover Beach California

I was born in San Diego and blessed to be raised on the beaches of this once quiet seaside communty.  I presently call the central coast of California my home.  I received my art education at San Diego State University, as well as study under Libby Tolley and Roger Robinson.

My present focus is representing the Central California landscape in a format I refer to as Neoclassic Impressionism.  In this approach to composition I am using the intensity and transparency of modern organic colors, much like the Master's of the 15th to 18th centuries used value or light to direct the viewer's eye.  These modern colors have the unique capacity to be mixed and not lose their vibrancy.  They present as much of a challenge and opportunity to the painters of today as the advent of inorganic colors presented to the impressionists of the 19th century.  It should come as no surprise that each great movement in art has been  accompanied by breakthroughts in the materials used.  It is our great fortune to live in a time of profound growth and invention.  And it is the artist's work to harness these changes to reflect the beauty of man and the world we inhabit.
